USER MANUAL

Important note: The terms “parent” and “child” are used throughout this manual.    For the purposes of this program, a “parent” is a computer administrator and a “child” is a computer user.

Dear Administrators/Parents.

The ENUFF program has many applications in business and in the home but it was primarily created in order to let you balance your children's activities and ensure their safety on the Internet.  We at Akrontech, ask that you be fair when limiting your children's time on games and when they need to use the Internet.  Reward your children by giving them more time when positive behavior and good time management have been demonstrated. Explain to your children why you are limiting their time on certain computer activities.  Gather some credible information to show them the long term effects of computer and Internet over-use.  Communicate with your children.  Don't just lock the computer!  Also, beware of cases where certain children strive to become programmers, consequently using the computer for long periods of time.  We are against repetitive game playing which does not leave any time for other valuable activities. However, we must be careful not to prevent our children from learning when using the computer.   We promote time management, a balanced activity schedule and safety on the Internet!  ENUFF will help you achieve all of the above.

To obtain the latest version of ENUFF at any time, visit www.akrontech.com.

2) How to register your copy

Registrations and payments can be sent to Akrontech over the Internet by visiting www.akrontech.com, by mail, fax or by phone.   Akrontech will process your registration and payment and issue you a serial number (unlock code) by email, which will change your trial copy to a time unlimited version.

Along with your name, address etc., (see bottom of these instructions for the registration form), you will need to have 2 pieces of information handy when you contact Akrontech to register your copy.  You will need the Reference Number and PC ID# (both appear every time parents log on to ENUFF during the 30 day trial period).  If the 30 day trial period has expired, you will need to click on Start, All Programs, Akrontech, ENUFF.  The Reference and PC ID numbers will be on the Shareware Dialog box, which will appear.

The registration screen

When you register your copy of ENUFF, Akrontech will supply you with a Serial number (unlock code) which will turn your 30-day trial copy, into a version which never expires.

When the program is in the 30-day trial mode, parents will notice a button on the registration reminder screen, called “Register”.  Clicking on Register, will open up a registration information screen.  After you read this information, close this screen in order to see the registration screen.  You will need to key in your serial number and name exactly as Akrontech will provide  them following your registration.  At the end, you will need to click on the “Unlock” button and the program will not run as a trial version any more.  The email you will receive from Akrontech with your serial number, will also contain information on how to key in your serial number and activate your copy.

3) Program installation

From a downloaded copy

Double click on the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.  When the program is installed on your computer, you will be required to set up the parent and children names and passwords. The program offers on-line help every step of the way.

IMPORTANT: You must enter at least one parent name and password during installation.  The rest of the configurations can be done later.  Make sure the parent passwords are easy for you to remember and most important, NOTE IF YOU ARE TYPING PASSWORD LETTERS IN lower or UPPER CASE!  If you forget the parent password(s), you may need to contact Akrontech for assistance if you are not sure what to do in such case.

4) Setting up the program

In order to set names and passwords, you must enter the Configuration mode.  There are two ways a parent can enter the configuration mode:
1) During installation or
2) After the installation

In either case, the Configuration procedure is the same.

1) During Installation, the process is automatic. This means that parents will be forced to enter the Configuration mode in order to enter at least one parent name and password, otherwise the program will not function.

2) After the installation and while a lock appears in the bottom right corner of your screen, point to the lock and Right-Click (not left-click) your mouse.  Choose Administrator, then Configuration.  Enter your Administrator (parent) password and you will access the Configuration mode.

Basic Settings

ENUFF is configured in 3 easy steps:

Step 1. Set Parent’s names and passwords

Click here to see a photo of the first Configuration screen

Entering Parent Names and Passwords:
- Click in the name field and type the first parent name
- Click on Set Password or simply press <Enter>
- Enter and re-enter each parent password

Important!
Note if you are typing passwords in lower or UPPER case letters.  Passwords must be used exactly as they were first entered.  PLEASE REMEMBER YOUR PASSWORD!

Repeat the above steps for second administrator/parent.

Note: The second parent configuration is optional.

Parent name and password changes can be done at any time after installation by typing a new name over the old one and by clicking on the "Set Password" button.

Windows users: If during the initial program installation, ENUFF does not find a windows account spelled exactly as entered in ENUFF for each administrator, it will create a windows account which will operate with the exact same password.  So, when you restart your computer following the first ENUFF installation, you may notice additional accounts created by windows.  If you wish to eliminate any unwanted new windows user accounts, then proceed to the Desktop, click on Start, Control Panel, User accounts, Change an account and select unwanted account.  Click on "Delete the account".

If you need to change any of the Administrator names in the future, you will need to type a new name in the name field and set password, even if the password remains the same. To remove one of the parent names, you will be required to uninstall and completely re-install the program.  Re-installing ENUFF without completely removing the previous version (just exiting the program), will not remove the Administrator names.

When this step is completed, click on "Next" (do not click on "Close" yet).

Step 2: Enter User's/Children’s names and passwords

Click here to see a picture of the second screen

The first time you install ENUFF and just before you see the screen which will contain the children names and passwords, ENUFF will search your computer for any existing windows users and ask you if you want to make them users of ENUFF as well.  This is recommended!. When you see the small window telling you that ENUFF has found the following windows users, place a check mark ONLY beside any of your children's/user names, (not admin/parent names) and ENUFF will create these users in its own list as well.  When you proceed, ENUFF will display the User Entry Dialog window in order to set each user's password.

XP users: The option "Also make this person a Windows user with this new password" found on the User Entry Dialog screen is useful when a child/user is required to sign on to Windows with their own name and password and maintain their own desktop settings.  When this option is checked, ENUFF will make this user's windows password identical to the one you enter on this screen.  Assigning the same user name for Windows and ENUFF could eliminate the need to remember 2 sets of login data and the opportunity to do a single log in for Windows and ENUFF (if you later enable the ENUFF advanced option "Use same name and password for Windows and ENUFF") .

When all the user names have been entered, you will proceed to the screen which displays all the users and their passwords.

To add a user after the initial installation, simply click on "Add User" to enter a name and password. Click on “Add User” again for child  2, 3 etc.

While adding new users (after the initial installation), it is recommended that you enable (check) the option "Also make this person a Windows user with this new password" unless! you are setting up additional accounts/profiles for an existing child/user in ENUFF, as suggested later on in this manual.

To change passwords or delete user accounts, you must first select a user child by clicking on their name.  Then click on “Change Password” or “Delete”.

When all users/children have been entered, click on "Next".  This will take you to Step 3 of the process (Giving children permissions).

Step 3:  Give children permissions

 (Basic Settings)

Click here to see a picture of the third screen

When in the Configuration mode, the parents or administrators will access the screen where they will give permission to each user in order for them to use the computer.

Computer Access Y/N.

Ensure that this option is set to [Yes] if this child is to use the computer.  The purpose of this function is to allow Administrators to temporarily block a user's access to the computer, without changing all the other settings.  This is a useful feature in the event that a child looses his/her privileges for a short time.  When they will be allowed to use the computer again, just change this option back to [Yes].

Internet Access Y/N

Set the Internet Access to [Yes] or [No] for a user depending on your present needs.  Note this Internet permission setting will affect this child’s ability to access the Internet for all 3 settings. Selecting [No] for Internet will completely prevent this user from accessing the Internet.

If the Internet Access is set to [No] for a given user, this user will not be allowed to use the Internet at all.  In such case, ENUFF may produce the following message when the user tries to dial your Internet Service Provider through a conventional modem:  "Error 630:The Computer is not receiving a response from the modem". Note that in such case, there is nothing wrong with the modem! ENUFF makes the modem invisible to the computer when a child is not supposed to use the Internet.

If you are accessing the Internet via a high speed connection (Cable or DSL) and the Internet access is set to NO, it will appear as if the computer is trying to connect to a website with the Browser but it can not find the website.  ENUFF blocks the flow of all information over the Internet and this means it will affect Email, Chat lines etc.

Settings 1, 2 and 3

(For the purpose of setting up ENUFF, please note that the first day of the week is Monday and the last day of the week is Sunday)

Important!  ENUFF initially assumes that children have no time allowed to use the computer and it displays:

From [Mon] to [Sun]

Allow [0] Hours and [00] Minutes per day

Between 8:00 Am and 8:00 Am

You must therefore change these time settings in order for a child to be able to use the computer.   To do this, follow these steps:

Configuring Setting 1

Select child's name from the list (Top left corner of the screen)

While in Setting 1, set From [day] To [day] (use the drop down menus to select the right day)

Next, set the number of hours you allow the child to use the computer per day

Now, select the time frame within which that child is to use up his/her time

Setting 1 in now complete.  Each child can have up to 3 daily or weekly settings, however these settings are optional.

Do not forget to change the "Between [Time1] and [Time2]" fields.  If these fields are left reading "Between [8:00 am] and [8:00 am],  the user will not be able to use the computer.

Typical weekly and Daily settings:

Setting 1 may cover [Mon] to [Fri]

Setting 2 could be only for Saturday (From [Sat] to [Sat]) and

Setting 3 could be only for Sunday ([Sun] to [Sun]).

A typical schedule for multiple daily settings could be:

Setting 1 may cover [Mon] to [Sun]  (say 1 hour between 3:00 PM and 6:00 PM)

Setting 2 also for [Mon] to [Sun] (say 1 hour and 30 min between 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM)

Setting 3 for [Sat] to [Sun] (extra time over the weekend, 2 hrs between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM)

Important!

You should not overlap times between settings within a given day!  In other words, you could not have say Setting 1 [Mon] to [Fri] with 2 hrs between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM, then Setting 2  [Mon] to [Fri] 1 hr between 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM (in these two settings there is an overlap of time between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM).

The "Reset Options" button

There are three sub options under the "Reset Options" button:

"Cancel this setting's allowed time"

This option will allow you to reset the selected setting to its original "No time allowed" status.  Clicking this option, will return this setting to the state it was before it was ever configured (Mon-Sun, 0 hrs, 0 min, Between 8:00 am and 8:00 am).

"Reset this setting's time to max"

If at any point in time, you wish to reset any of the settings for a child or simply allow that child to have additional time, you can enter the Configuration, advance to the screen which contains the user permissions, select the child's name from the list and click on Reset Options and "Reset this Setting's time to max" in order to allow that child to repeat the same amount of time as if s/he did not use the computer at all today. Please note that this option will not work while the child user is logged in under this setting in a network situation.  This option will also not reset a user's time if the user is bounded by the daily cutoff time.  In other words, you can not reset a user's time to 2 hours if this user is allowed to be on the computer till 10:00 PM and the time now is 9:30 PM.

If you want to change the day and time settings at any time, then just select the new day/times and ENUFF will automatically reset this setting for the child right away, as long as this setting is not in effect when you try to change it! If this setting is in effect, then your changes will be reflected the next time the child will try to use the computer under this setting.

If you just want to extend/reduce a user's time by X number of minutes while the user is on the computer, it is best to sign off ENUFF then select this user's name from the Password Dialog name list and instead of entering that user's password, enter a parent password.  You will be prompted with the available time extension/reduction options.

"Remove user's logon hold"

There is a case where a child user may try to alter one or more of the ENUFF critical files.  In such case, ENUFF will prevent this user from doing so and it will automatically revoke this user's sign in privileges by placing his/her account "On Hold".  Every time this user tries to Sign in s/he will receive a message telling them that their account has been put on hold.  In such case, a parent is the only person who can remove the hold by clicking on this option.

Daily and Weekly "Time Blocks"

Daily Time Block

ENUFF allows parents to give children a block of time every day, which could be used after a certain time.  This feature is particularly useful when you want to allow children on the computer past 12:00 midnight with one setting.  Without this feature, any child must stop using the computer at 11:59 PM and restart after 12:00 midnight, if working past midnight on the computer were necessary. However, two settings would be required for the latter.

Here is how to use the Time Block:

Select a child's name from the list.

While in Setting 1, 2 or 3 set From [day1] To [day2].

Set the number of hours you allow the child to use the computer per day.

When it is time to select the time frame within which that child is to use up his/her time, scroll to the top of the list until you find the option “TIME BLOCK” and select it.

The last item you will need to specify is the starting time for this time block.  The field to the right of the option TIME BLOCK controls the time that child will be able to start using his/her time.

Please note!
A child using Time Block could Log Off (pause their time) any time between the “Start time” and midnight.  A child working with a Time Block however MAY NOT pause their time after midnight.  If a child signs off (or is automatically signed off) after midnight, he/she will loose the remainder of their time.  The reason for designing the program this way is to ensure that children go to bed at a reasonable time at night.  The typical problem solved with this feature is that when parents allow 3 hours of computer or Internet time per day and the children start using their time say at 11:00 PM.  By signing on and off after midnight, they could stay on the computer all hours of the night until their time was used up.

Be careful how you assign computer time using the Time Block.  If you give your child many hours daily (say 6 hours) and the child starts using the computer with a Time Block at 11:45 PM for the first time, s/he can be on the computer till 5:45 in the morning!

Weekly Time Block

This function will be incorporated in upcoming releases and more information will be posted in this space.

Limiting time on the Internet or on a chat line

Once you specify Internet Access [No] for a user, this user will not be able to access the Internet at all.  Many administrators (parents) have a need however to allow users to use the computer for several hours every day but they wish to limit their Internet access say to 1 hour per day.

If you have this need, create more than one account for the subject child (Johnny, and Johnny-Internet) as if these two accounts belonged to two different children.  Give Johnny (who will have his Internet access set to No) lots of time per day. Set "Johnny-Internet" time to 1 hour per day with the Internet access option set to [Yes].  When your child wants to use the Internet, s/he must sign in using the Johnny-Internet account.

When you use two profiles for a child as we describe in this section, it is very important to also set the "Upon Sign off..." option to "Blank Screen" so that ENUFF will prevent the user from having endless sessions on chat lines without being logged in or better yet, set the same option to "Log Off Win user" instead in order to also prevent endless downloads while the user is not logged in.

Another case involves the possibility of Johnny being allowed on the Internet but not on a chat line (like MSN Messenger). You could create another account called Johnny-NoChat (or anything else you may want to call it.  In this account, you would set the internet time to whatever limit you prefer and you would add the MSN Messenger program to the list of Restricted programs, so that ENUFF will block it and not allow it to operate.

Advanced Options

There are two groups of Advanced Options. One is accessible from the screen where you give users time and day permissions and the second is accessible when you click on “Next” from the time and day permission screen.

a) The first group

In order to use the Advanced options, you need to click on the button called “Show Advanced”.  When you click on “Show Advanced” from the Time and Day permissions screen, several new options will appear.  These options are:

Click here to see a screen shot of the first Advanced Options group

Disconnect Modem upon SignOff

This is not the only way ENUFF controls Internet access for certain users but it is one of the ways.  ENUFF will terminate a conventional modem connection when a child using the Internet, logs off (or is automatically logged off!), if this option is set to [Yes] .  This is to prevent users from starting an Internet session/download, then sign off and have the Internet connection going for hours without them being controlled by ENUFF.

ENUFF will not terminate the modem connection when a child using the Internet logs off, if this function is set to [No].  Note that this function only applies to a conventional telephone modem and it will not stop Internet traffic if your computer is connected to the Internet via cable, ADSL or any other method whereby the computer is always on the Net.  To control Internet access in such case, please check the option "Internet Access" as well as the feature called "Upon Sign Off..."  [Blank Screen] or [Log user off windows] found in the "More Advanced Options"

Sign Off user after [ 5 ] minutes of system inactivity

If this option is checked (by default it is checked), then ENUFF will auto sign off any child user who has not used the mouse or pressed any keyboard key for [ 5 ] minutes.  Parents can change the number of minutes at any time or turn this feature off by removing the check mark from the “sign off” field.

"Allowed" programs

The allowed program list is a great feature in ENUFF.  It allows parents and administrators to configure a user to only be able to work with a few programs on the computer and not access the rest.

Initially, all users are allowed to work with all the programs on the computer, until at least one program is added to the "Allowed" list.  The moment you add the first program to this list, ENUFF knows that this is the only program you want the selected user to work with and it will block all the rest. Please be patient when you first set this option because some typical functions like dialup, word processors etc. may need to be added to this list otherwise they will not work.

Note! This option may require some advanced computer skills and a few users may find it somewhat difficult.  The Akrontech tech support team will be happy to provide you with additional help when you write to them with specific questions.  Remember though that this part is optional!

If you want to give access to certain users at different days and times using different programs, combine this feature with multiple profiles for one user.  For example, the user "Johnny" can have unrestricted access to the computer for one hour every day.  The user "Johnny-Homework" can have lots of time in a day but the Word processor, encyclopedia and other school related programs have been added to the Allowed list (thus blocking all the rest) and Johnny can not play any games during those hours.

Similarly, in a work environment, an employee can be given unrestricted access to the computer for a limited part of the day but when this employee logs in under a second profile for the most part of the day, s/he can only access programs which are work related.

When ready to add a program to the list, make sure the user's name is selected from the list and click on “Add”.  ENUFF will display your computer’s Program list.  Please scroll to the right in order to see the entire list.  You may need to double-click on a program group name, in order to see the individual program files.  In this case, you are trying to select files ending in .EXE.  Once you see a program file that you want to add to the list of allowed programs, just double-click on it to select it.  Repeat as necessary and select as many programs as you like, for each child.  There is no need to save anything as ENUFF automatically saves your selection to the list.

When you click for options, you will see one option which displays all the programs presently running on your computer.  There is also an "Instructions" button provided on this screen telling you how to use this feature. The mandatory programs needed by Windows, are already selected. Please select any other program that you think may be necessary for your operating system to run.  If you are not sure what other programs to select from this list, leave the rest un-checked as you found them and begin using the computer as this user. If some program does not work (because ENUFF is blocking it) and you agree that it should be allowed to run, make a note of this program and go back to the the "Allowed" program list and access the mandatory program list once again.  Place a check mark beside the program name which may be on the list, allowing it to operate.  If this program is not on the mandatory list, then remember that you can add any program to the regular "Allowed" list.

Important! As previously mentioned, certain programs require more than one .EXE (executable file) to be added to the Allowed list but it may be very difficult to figure out which other file should be added to the list.  In such cases, you can download a small utility (ENWatch) by clicking here when you are on line. This utility will reveal all necessary executable files which should be added to the Allowed program list. Here is how to use this utility:

Once you download ENWatch.exe on your computer, YOU MUST place it (or place a copy of it) in the program folder which contains your ENUFF.  This can be found using "My Computer", double click on the C: drive,  double click on Program Files, then on the folder called Akrontech and on the  sub-folder ENUFF.  Make sure the ENWatch.exe file is in the above mentioned folder otherwise this process will not work.

Sign in to ENUFF as an administrator. Double click on the ENWatch utility and you will see a little window on your screen. Click the "Enable" button and then start the game or other program you want to add to the Restricted list. Make sure this program has started and you are ready to play/use. If necessary, go through the part that did not work so that this utility can capture all the programs that make this operation functional. Close the game/program you just opened and used.  The ENWatch utility window should now have the names of each individual file that you will need to add to the Allowed program list in order for ENUFF to permit this game/program to run.

Once again, remember that this feature is optional.  If you have tried and have not succeeded in adding programs to the "Allowed' list, then write to Akrontech for assistance.

"Restricted" programs

Click on “Restricted” to add programs to a list, in order that a user will NOT be able to use these programs.  To access this option, click on "Show Advanced", then click on the “Restricted” button found in the Configuration panel.  Click on "Click for Options" button in order to be able to add programs to the list.

Note! This option may require some advanced computer skills and a few users may find it somewhat difficult.  The Akrontech tech support team will be happy to provide you with additional help when you write to them with specific questions.  Remember though that this part is optional!

By default, there is no restriction on the type or number of programs children can use.  Initially, the program window (the list of prohibited programs), will be empty.  When you click on the “Click for options” button, a menu will display providing you with the following options:

Add  Add a new program to the list.

Remove  Remove a program from the list.

Remove All Empty the entire list of restricted programs.

When ready to add a program to the list, click on “Add”.  ENUFF will display your computer’s Program list.  Please scroll to the right in order to see the entire list.  You may need to double-click on a program group name, in order to see the individual program files.  In this case, you are trying to select files ending in .EXE.  Once you see a program file that you want to add to the list of forbidden programs, just double-click on it to select it.  Repeat as necessary and select as many programs as you like, for each child.  There is no need to save anything as ENUFF automatically saves your selection to the list.

Important! Certain programs require more than one .EXE (executable file) to be added to the Restricted list but it may be impossible to figure out which other file should be added to the list.  In such cases, you can download a small utility (ENWatch) by clicking here when you are on line. This utility will reveal all necessary executable files which should be added to the Restricted program list.

Close the game/program you just opened.  The ENWatch utility window should now have the names of each individual file that you will need to add to the restricted program list in order for ENUFF to stop this game/program from running the next time.

Once again, remember that this feature is optional.  If you have tried and have not succeeded in blocking programs for your children, then write to Akrontech for assistance.

b) More Advanced Options (The 4th Configuration Screen)

Click here to see a screen shot of the second Advanced Options group

The Additional Advanced Options (More ENUFF Configuration Advanced Settings) are accessible when you click on “Next” from the time and day settings screen. Click on “Show Advanced” to see the following options:

Play a sound at 5 and 1 minute left instead of displaying a warning box.

This feature was introduced because a few games would not allow ENUFF to display the 5 minute and 1 minute time warnings, causing the screen to freeze. Everquest is one of them and there are a few more games that take over the entire computer screen when they are in use. In such case, set an audible warning for the time expiry warnings in order to avoid this problem.

Apart from the typical sound warnings you will see on the list, ENUFF can also play two WAV files which must be saved in the folder that contains all other ENUFF program files.  The location of this folder is usually at C:\ProgramFiles\Akrontech\Enuff.  When the option "Play a sound at 5 and 1 minute left..." is turned on, ENUFF will look for the following the two files LOGOUT.WAV (at 5 minutes before time is up) and LOGOUT2.WAV (at 1 minute before time expires).  If these files are in the ENUFF folder, they would be played by default.  If they are not there, then ENUFF will play the selected sound beside the option "Play a sound at 5 and 1 minute left...".  Parents are advised to create their own WAV files (perhaps record their voice) with the message they wish their children to hear at 5 and 1 minute before their time expires.

Use same Username and Password for Windows and ENUFF.

Many people use usernames and passwords for Windows in order to maintain certain preferences separate from their other family members. Similarly, in a work environment, each user may already have his/her own password for using the computer. Before activating this option in ENUFF under the above circumstances, one would be required to enter their username and password twice before they access the computer (once for Windows and a second time for ENUFF). By enabling this option however, you can avoid entering your username and password twice.

Place a check mark beside this option and ensure that you have entered a password for each user for windows login.  When starting your computer and the Windows username and password screen comes up, each user must enter their own password to login to windows and if they have access granted by the ENUFF program (as a child), they will be automatically signed on to ENUFF and they will begin using the computer at once.

Caution! Do not use this option if you (the parent or administrator) are not required to use a password to log in to Windows.  If you simply press <Enter> to log in to Windows (or if you just click on your name in windows XP) without a password, everyone else will be able to do the same!  Administrators must create a password for Windows access before they utilize this function in ENUFF. This can be done through your computer's Control Panel (Users).

If you need help with this function, contact Akrontech.  If you are not sure what to do and you do not obtain help, it may be safer not to use this option at all.

Export / Import

Use these functions to save the Configuration settings in another location or to create a backup of your configuration on a floppy diskette.  It would be a good idea to create a backup of your settings, just in case you need to remove and re-install the program at some point. These functions are no different than saving and opening a document. However, if you are unclear as to how to use Export (backup) and how to Import (restore), please write to us and we will help.

Important! ENUFF allows you to use different languages and you can create messages in your favorite language. The Export/Import option will not backup any translations you may have done yourself.

Sign Off Parent after [X] minutes of system inactivity

If this option is checked (and it is checked by default), then ENUFF will auto sign off any one of the two administrators who have not used the mouse or pressed any keyboard key for 5 minutes.  Parents can change the number of minutes at any time or turn this feature off by removing the check mark from this field.

Hide (Drives and other Control Panel functions)

Important! Before using this function, you must install a free windows utility on your computer called TweakUI which is available from Microsoft (R). Please visit one of the following websites to download and install TweakUI for windows 9X/Me or for Windows 2000/XP.  ENUFF uses TweakUI to block drives and access to other functions.  After you install TweakUI on your computer, clicking on the "Hide" button, will access the functions of the TweakUI program

If you have Windows XP, click on the following link to download this file. Simply double click on the downloaded file to install it.

Microsoft's website download link (TweakUI for windows XP): TweakUI-XP.exe (file size 550 K)

If you have Windows 9X/Me/2000, click on the following link to access a page with information on how to download and install this small utility.

Microsoft's website download page (TweakUI for windows 9X/Me/2000): TweakUI.exe (file size 64 K)

TweakUI will appear in different places depending on the windows version you are using.  If you are using Windows NT/2000 TweakUI will appear in your Control Panel.  If you are using Windows XP, TweakUI will appear in your Start Menu, All Programs.

When you locate the TweakUI utility on your computer, click to start it (in the Control Panel or in your Start Menu) and see the different options it contains.  TweakUI offers many options but you do not need to worry about all of them.  While you can explore them all, we will only be concerned with hiding Drive drives and hiding certain Control Panel options.  If you are on line, please click on the following 3 links below to see the typical settings we would recommend while in the TweakUI control panel.

TweakUI-main (overview of functions)

TweakUI-drives (to hide drives)

TweakUI-Control Panel (to hide Control Panel functions)

TweakUI can work independent of the ENUFF program but the reason we provide an access to TweakUI through the ENUFF program is because you may want to hide your C: drive on your computer so that your child/employees can not install anything new on your computer or to disable TweakUI.  If you do that however, you can not find TweakUI (because the C: drive is not visible).  By placing the button called "Hide" within the ENUFF program, you can always access TweakUI from within ENUFF.  When children users log in to ENUFF, they can not access TweakUI as it has already been restricted by ENUFF.

Important note!

If users (your children) use their own Windows names and passwords, which would mean that they maintain their own settings (Desktop etc.), then in order to control their drives and other Control Panel settings with TweakUI, you must log in to Windows as each individual child (as them) but in to ENUFF as an Administrator (as you) and hide drives etc.  If you hide a drive while you (the administrator) is logged in to Windows, the changes will not affect your children's profiles. Again, the best approach is to log in to windows as the user and log in to ENUFF as a parent/administrator.  Make the changes in TweakUI and the changes will affect the children's (user's) accounts.

We recommend that you hide drive D: (your CD ROM) if you do not want users to use this drive particularly to install new programs.

Depending how knowledgeable your users are, we also recommend that you hide drive C: (your hard disk) in extreme cases, to prevent users from accessing and altering other critical data or configurations. In this case, they will only be able to use whatever is already on your computer.

Show Background

Blank Screen

Log Off Win user

Reasons for these options:

Show Background

This is simply the the default option.

Blank Screen

A few users were given 1 hour or so on the Internet per day and their computer had cable/DSL access to the Internet (was always on the Net).  These users would sign on to ENUFF, go on a chat line, sent a message and they would immediately sign off the ENUFF program so that they would not loose any time.  However, when others sent messages to them, they were able to see them on the screen, although they were not signed on to ENUFF.  This became a way for a few to make 1 hour on chat lines, last several hours instead.  When you select the option "Blank Screen", ENUFF will make the screen go black when a user either signs off or is automatically signed off by the ENUFF program.  The ENUFF password screen will continue to be displayed however. This way, when one is not logged in, s/he can not work with the Internet in any way, as nothing will be visible.

Log Off Win user

The need for such option resulted from a few users who were given say two different accounts (in ENUFF) with various program restrictions but were switching between accounts to get more time.  Here is an example of such case:

Johnny has two ENUFF accounts; "Johnny" and "Johnny-Games".

The account "Johnny" has a word processor and a few other programs primarily needed for school work, allowed. All games are restricted in this account and the child can use this account for most of the day.

However, the account "Johnny-Games" is allowed to work for 2 hours per day and Johnny can play any one of his games. Johnny would sign in as "Johnny-Games", start a game, let it run and sign off the ENUFF program.  Then he would sign back in using the account "Johnny".  When a game is already running, ENUFF can not close it down.  ENUFF will stop someone from starting a restricted program, but if this program is already operating, it can not shut it down. This way, Johnny was able to play a restricted game using his other account designed only for homework.

When you select "Log Off Win user", Johnny can start a game using his "Games' account but when he Signs Off the ENUFF program, the computer will force this user to Log Off Windows. This means that any open programs must close.  When using this option, the user will be required to Log back in to Windows first, then Sign back in to ENUFF using whatever ENUFF account is appropriate and active.

The same problem existed between two accounts when say one was allowed on the Internet most of the day with no access to a chat line and the other only had 30 minutes per day with access to chat lines.  The user would sign on to the chat line using the proper account, then sign off right away to preserve time and sign back in using the other account which had the chat program restricted. The chat program would be allowed to run because ENUFF could not shut it down.  This option eliminates this possibility.

Important note!  When using this option, please advise all users that when they receive their last "1-minute left" warning, to save their work right away.  When their time expires, they are given NO opportunity to save their work before programs close.

Advanced Text color

This feature allows you to customize the text color of the Advanced Options Menu.  To use this feature, Right-Click your mouse over any part of the "Advanced Options" panel, in order to see the colour selections.

Running ENUFF on a Network

ENUFF operates on a network which may consist of computers combinations running windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP.  In a network situation, you will need to install ENUFF on all computers and consider one of them to be the “Server” for ENUFF purposes.  The “Server” will store the permissions for all the users as outlined in this manual.  Once the children’s permissions have been set only on the server, you will need to tell the other computers to "Run ENUFF from an ENUFF server" (these computers will be designated as  “Clients”).  You will also need to tell each ENUFF client  where the server is located by means of typing a set of numbers we will help you retrieve (the IP address of the server).  When properly configured, each user would be able to log in to any one of the computers on the network and time will be deducted only from the server’s settings. In such case, there is no need to enter the user names in each computer!

Important! ENUFF will run on a network as long as the IP address of the server does not keep changing. The server's IP address remains the same on most network configurations.

How to designate one computer as the ENUFF “Server”

Install ENUFF on the computer that you wish to designate as the server.  During the installation, you will already be in the Configuration and you will be able to set the following items. If you wish to set an ENUFF server after the installation, log in as an administrator (parent) on the computer you wish to designate as the ENUFF server and enter the ENUFF configuration mode by right-clicking on the lock and by selecting Administrator, then Configuration.

When you are in the Configuration mode, you will first see the screen with the administrator (parent) names and passwords.  Keep clicking on “Next” until you see the page with “More Advanced Settings”. Click on the button called “Show Advanced” in order to see the available options.  Among other options, you will see the group called “Network Options”.

To designate a computer as the ENUFF server, simply place a check mark beside the corresponding option: "This machine is an ENUFF server". This computer has now been designated as the ENUFF server.  This is all it takes!  Close the Configuration. After you designate one of your computers to be an ENUFF server, the ENUFF server function will automatically be loaded every time you start your computer.

At this point we assume that one and only one of your computers has been designated as the ENUFF Server.  You should not have more than one ENUFF installation running as an ENUFF server!

Next, log on to ENUFF (on the Server) as a parent and configure each child’s access details if you have not done so already (time allowed, when, program restrictions etc.).

When a computer has been made an ENUFF server, additional options pertaining to network functionality will be present when you right-click on the lock icon of this computer to enter the ENUFF configuration.

How to configure the rest of the computers as ENUFF "Clients"

Lets proceed now and configure the rest of the computers on the network. We will need to tell each computer to "Run ENUFF from ENUFF Server" and enter the ENUFF server's location (the IP address of your server). If you have set up your own network, you will definitely know (or will be able to retrieve) that computer’s IP Address. If you do not know the IP Address of the computer you designated to be the ENUFF server, follow the steps below to retrieve the IP Address.

How to retrieve the ENUFF server's IP Address.

From your Server's Desktop, click on Start, then on "Run..." and type CMD in the "Open:" field.  Click on "OK" and you should see a black window on your screen containing a blinking cursor.  Type IPCONFIG at the cursor location and press Enter. Among other information, there will be one line labeled "IP Address" with a number beside it (it may look something like this: 192.168.2.9). Write this number down because you will need to enter it in the Configuration of every ENUFF client computer.

Entering the Server's IP Address in the client machines.

Log in as a parent on the client computers and access the configuration mode on each computer connected to the network. When you are in the Configuration mode, you will first see the screen with the parent names and passwords.  Keep clicking on “Next” until you see the page with the “More Advanced Settings”. Click on the button called “Show Advanced” in order to see the available options.  Among other options, you will see the group called “Network Options”.

On every client machine, you will need to place a check mark beside “Run ENUFF from ENUFF Server” in order for these computers (the ENUFF clients) to find the ENUFF server and obtain the permissions from the server.

Next, you will need to enter the server’s IP address so that the ENUFF clients will find the server. Please note that you could have a server located at any place on the Internet as long as you have its IP address. This is a very powerful feature in ENUFF because you can set the program up to control different computers over the Internet.

Enter the Server’s IP Address and click on “Test” to see if an ENUFF server has been found (if a communication has been established with the server). If Yes, then this ENUFF client is setup for your ENUFF network. Click on “Close” and proceed with the rest of the client computers the same way. If your ENUFF server can not be found, please double check the IP address you entered and make sure that you don't have a "firewall" program blocking the ENUFF communication.  If you have trouble establishing a communication between the server and another computer, please make sure that your network works properly.  For further help you would need to involve a technical person who can provide more assistance at your end.

IMPORTANT! When you place a check mark beside “Run ENUFF from ENUFF Server”, you will not be able to see the screen with the user names and their permissions on the client computer. These settings are read internally by ENUFF from the server.  If you have checked this option in error on a computer and wish to make the local user names and permissions visible again, enter the Configuration mode (Advanced Options) and remove the check mark beside "Run ENUFF from ENUFF server". The user names (children names) and their local configurations will re-appear in the Configuration mode of this computer.

A few important notes about running ENUFF on a network.

  • Every computer connected to the network will require a serial number (unlock code) from Akrontech, in order to operate past the first 30 days.  Please check the FAQ pages on www.akrontech.com for special prices when you operate ENUFF on multiple computers.
  • In order for ENUFF clients to read the user settings on the network, the ENUFF server computer must be up and running.  The server function (on windows XP/2000) will work even if no one has Logged in to windows and windows is displaying the typical windows welcome screen.  This is great in the event that you have a power failure when you are not at home and the server must be restarted.
  • When every copy of ENUFF (on the client computers) has been set to run from the server, administrators (parents) will be able to configure individual users' time and other permissions only from the server.
  • If ENUFF has been set to run on a network and the server is not present for some reason, looking at any of the ENUFF “Client” computers, only the parent names will display on their ENUFF password screens.  In such case, you need to find out why the server is not present/working.
  • If you are at the server and there are no users showing on the Password Dialog box (when you try to log on to ENUFF), then you probably have checked the option "Run ENUFF from ENUFF server" on the server itself (which should not be done). Uncheck it to see the user list.
  • If the network connection between the server and a client machine is lost while a child is using a computer, this user will automatically be logged off and re-login will not be permitted after that computer reconnects with the server.  Only an administrator will be able to reset this user from the server.
  • If both programs (ENUFF as well as the ENUFF Server) are running on the server, there will be additional options present pertaining to the ENUFF network, when you right-click on the lock icon (bottom right corner of the screen).  Right click on the lock and select "Server Status" to see who is connected to the network, on which machine and how much time they have.  While viewing these details, you can right-click the mouse over a user's line and "Sign them out" or "Reset their time" (add/take away time) if you wish.
  • After you right click on the lock icon (on the ENUFF server) and select "Vie Server Log File", you will see any log in and out details from all computers, PROVIDED! that on each individual computer, you have specified to have the Log file details stored on the server. This is an option which will become available when you make an ENUFF installation, a "Client" (you set it to run from an ENUFF server).
  • Note that any computer set up over the Internet can be an ENUFF server as long as it has a fixed IP address.
  • If your server is using a firewall, you may need to know the following:

The FWS needs to be configured so that ICMP traffic is allowed if the "Ping Server" option is enabled in ENUFF.  In this case, you will need to have port 6600 open in order for it to work.

  • If you are at an ENUFF client machine and you do not see all the child users on the ENUFF "Password Dialog" screen (the screen where you sign in to ENUFF) and provided that your server is up and running, double click your mouse in the "name" field (not in the password field!).  This will refresh the user list from the server and it will display the most up to date list of users taken from the server.  This is particularly useful when your server is restarted for some reason and the list of users needs to be reset at a client machine.
Should you experience any difficulties in running ENUFF on a network, please feel free to write to Akrontech.

Other Languages

ENUFF allows you to display the messages that ENUFF users (children) will see, in a language of your choice.

Important! This feature is not designed to run the entire program in another language but to only display the messages that children will need to read.

Here is how to use this function:

While in the Configuration (More Advanced Options) click on the "Configure" button found in the little box called "Other Languages". A new screen will appear with a translation list on the top left corner and two panels.  The panel on the right is the basic English text and the panel to the left is used to key in new translations.

Click on the down arrow (top left corner) and see if the language you prefer is already on this list.  If it is, all you need to do is select it and click on "OK".  Every time children or other users try to log on to the computer, ENUFF will display messages in the selected language.

If the language of your choice is not on the list, then you can create your own translation. To create a new translation, click on "Add Translation" and enter the name of the language you will be using.  Click on "OK" and you will be in the translation mode which means that you can begin translating each line of text on the left panel using the English text as reference, on the right.

To edit a line on the left...

1. Click on the line first, then click on "Edit". Drag the right window line to the right if you wish, to give yourself more working space (enlarge the window).
2. On the left hand side, enter the most appropriate expression for the English sentence you see on the right.
3. Very Important!  Leave any text you see in brackets (for example: <STARTTIME>) exactly as it is because the program expects to find the exact text in the brackets in order to display something else for the user.  If you alter the text in the brackets, the program will not operate properly. Translate text other than what is in the brackets.  Listed below is an example of how one line is translated.

Line 5:     Por un bloque de <HRS> horas y <MIN> minutos.

4. When you are done, click on "Save" in order to save your translation.

A translation is active (the default) when this translation is the one shown on the top left window of the translation screen.  To use another translation, simply choose a different one from the list.

Secure your translation so that it is not lost when you uninstall the program.
When you create a translation, ENUFF will create a new file using the name of the translation you created and it will save it in the folder "\Program Files\Akrontech\Enuff".  You may wish to copy this file on a diskette and save it, just in case you will need to re-install your ENUFF program from the beginning.

A new translation will not be erased if you simply "Exit" ENUFF (right click on the lock and select Administrator, then Exit) and you install a newer version on your computer.  In this case, your previous custom files are preserved.

A new translation will be erased if you "Uninstall" the ENUFF program before you install a newer version.

Do you feel that you have created a good translation (or you have corrected one which was already on the list)?  Why not email it to Akrontech so that they will include it with every download for others to enjoy.  In this case, please copy each and every line of your translation (as it appears on the left side) and paste it in an email message to "support@akrontech.com".

Note: We must receive all the lines of your translation in the exact same order as they appear on your screen, otherwise we will not be able to include it in new versions.

5) Using the computer

Using the computer as a parent

a) Logging in and out

When the computer starts up and the Windows Desktop appears, the ENUFF Password Dialog box will display.  Enter your name or use the drop down menu to select your name.  If the list of names is long and the mouse pointer stops before the last name on the list, use the arrow keys on your keyboard to select the desired name.  Enter your Administrator password and you will have access to the computer as usual, with no restrictions.  To ensure that ENUFF is running, look for the lock on the bottom right corner of your screen (system tray).

To log off, after your session is over, either Right-Click on the lock (bottom-right corner of your screen) and select "Sign Off" or Left-Click twice on the lock to automatically end your session.  Alternatively, from the Start Menu, select Programs, then Akrontech and click on "ENUFF" or “ENUFF XP” depending on the version you are using.

In the event that you wish to log on to Windows as a different user (just for windows purposes), select "Log Off" from the ENUFF password screen.

b) Accessing the Configuration mode

Note: Children are not permitted to access the Configuration.

While ENUFF is running, a lock will appear in the bottom right corner of your screen.  Point to the lock and Right-Click your mouse (not left-click).  Choose Administrator, then select Configuration.  Enter your parent password and you will be able to enter the Configuration mode.

Another way to access the Configuration mode is by clicking on Start, then by selecting Programs (All Programs - in Win XP), Akrontech and click on “Enuff Configuration”.

c) Other options available to Parents

Parents also have access to the following options:

User Status

Right-Click on the pad lock in order to access User Status.  This option will allow parents (or children) to see how much time each child has left for that day.  Important! This option will display the time left, ONLY after a child's time permission for a day has began.   For example: if Child A can use the computer between 3:00 pm and 8:00 pm, the computer (for User Status purposes) will display details in the User Status window, only after 3:00 pm for that child. This option is particularly useful when is ENUFF runs on a network.

Computer Usage Log report (Log File)

While in the Configuration (in the parent's name and password screen), parents can click on the "View Log File" button to see detailed information about children's log-in and out dates and times. This list will purge itself every 14 days and will be saved with a unique file name in the Program Files, Akrontech, ENUFF folder and such files will be named “log_(date).txt”.

Resetting a user’s time

If the parent(s) are present and they decide to give a certain child extra time, one of the ways they can accomplish that is by entering the Configuration mode, then by accessing the screen with the permissions and select the child's name.  Following that, parents must select the correct Setting (1, 2 or 3). Click on “Reset This Setting” and enter the new permission for this Setting or click on “Reset This Setting” and leave the time as is, the child will be able to repeat the same time interval as previously displayed.

Important Feature!

If a parent wishes to alter the child’s remaining time quickly, the following feature can be used:

While on the ENUFF password screen, ensure that the child's name appears in the name field and just key in A PARENT password (not the child’s password) and you will be prompted with 3 options.

1. Completely reset their time

2. Decrease their time, or

3. Increase their time.

Please note that giving them more time will work, provided that the child is not limited by the cutoff time for that day.

The "Extra Time" user.

ENUFF allows parents to create and configure a special account (as if they had another child), which can be used when the parents are away and the children need some extra time in a given day.

Create a child by the name "Extra Time" in the ENUFF Configuration. The name must be written exactly as Extra Time.   Allow 30 min, 1 hr (or whatever you think is right for a one-time use) and assign a unique password that only you (the parent) will know.  This should not be the same as your Administrator password! If the child needs extra time one day and you are not at home but can be reached by phone, you can provide that password to your child over the phone and that child can use the computer as the user named "Extra Time".

ENUFF will permit the child "Extra Time" to use the computer ONLY ONCE.  Once that child signs off (even before their time is up), they will not be able to use the computer again with the same password.  Following the use of this extra time "account", parents are advised to key-in a new password for the next time and YOU MUST click on the “Reset Options” button located in the Configuration panel while the user “Extra Time” is displayed. Click on the sub-option called "Reset this setting's time to max." and the new password will become active.  Write the new password down and provide it to your child when it is needed. Parents are advised to turn off the option "Auto sigh off after 5 minutes of inactivity" for the Extra Time account.

Parent Discipline

A great feature which can help parents/administrators manage their own time on the computer or the Internet. If you find that the computer is cutting in to your family/work activities and obligations, then use this feature to help you manage your own time on the computer/Internet.

As a parent/administrator you may ask, "if I have ultimate control of my computer with ENUFF, how can it help me?" Well, when you click on "Parent Discipline", you will be prompted with the following two options:

1. Restrict Parent's Computer Access

2. Restrict Parent's Internet Access

By selecting one of the two and setting the time ("Apply Restriction for [ X ] hours and [ Y ] minutes"), you will set ENUFF to NOT allow you (the administrator) to either use the Internet or use the entire computer for the specified length of time.  We suggest that you first try this option for 10 minutes to see how it works, then rely on it for longer periods of time.

This is an excellent tool for many parents and business people!

Using the computer as a child

Logging in and out

When the computer starts up and Windows is loaded, the Password Dialog box will appear.  Children must type in or select their name from the list.  Enter the child password and you will have access to the computer as a child.

The time left for each child will be displayed in the bottom right corner of the screen while that child uses the computer.  Click on the “X” of the time window to eliminate it during a session, if you wish or drag this window to another location, if it interferes with your program.

Children will be notified twice before their session is over.  The first notification will appear 5 minutes before the end of their session and the second notification 1 minute before their time is up.  When their time expires, the password screen will come up, thus locking the mouse pointer.  Children are advised to save their work when they see the last one-minute notification.  If they fail to do that, a parent or a sibling can sign in even after their time is up and save their work.  ENUFF will not automatically terminate their application (their program).

Children have the option of pausing their session at any time, without loosing any of their time.  They simply need to Sign Off by Right-Clicking on the Pad Lock and selecting Sign Off.  This will pause their timer. When they return to the computer, they need to enter their password again to continue.

Important note! Sometimes, you may notice that although a user has time remaining for that day, this user may sign off but the timer may keep running. It appears as if they are loosing time although they are not using the computer. This is usually because of the child's ultimate cutoff time for that day and it is not a fault in the  program. Here is an example of this situation:  Suppose Johnny has 3 hours today, which is to be used between 4:00 pm and 10:00 pm.  By 9:00 pm, Johnny has only used 1 hour (out of the 3) because he has not been home.  He log on to the computer at 9:00 pm and at that time, Johnny's remaining time is not 2 hours but only one hour because he can not use the computer past 10:00 pm!

Pausing the Timer

When a child is using the computer, they may want to pause for a while and continue working on the computer at a later time.  To pause their time, users would either need to right-click on the lock (bottom-right corner of the screen) and select Sign Off or simply double-click on the lock with the left mouse button.  Once the Password Dialog box is up on the screen, the previous user's time has been paused and another user can log in to ENUFF.

Windows 2000/XP users

Note! If you have set up multiple users in Windows, there is no need to switch windows user in order for ENUFF to keep track of a user's time.  ENUFF will track the user regardless of the "profile" they used to log in to windows.

Checking the remaining time

When a child uses the computer, ENUFF will display the remaining time in the bottom-right corner of the screen.  If this small window is disturbing, you can click on the "X" to close it or you can move it to another part of the screen by dragging it (from the blue bar - top).

There are other ways to check the remaining time in the event that the little window has been closed.

Simply point to and rest your mouse pointer on the lock for a second  and the remaining time will be displayed.

If you right-click your mouse on the lock, a menu will come up.  Select User Info or User Status to see the remaining time.

ENUFF XP will disable the option in Windows XP called "Switch User"

When this option was used, several technical complications were experienced, such as users being able to log in more than once in some cases, unrestricted use of the computer in other cases and having the ENUFF timer counting down when a user has been switched, caused us to disable the option "Switch User" when you install ENUFF only under the Windows XP Operating System. This option will be restored if you ever uninstall ENUFF.

6) Suggestions on how to use ENUFF effectively

What if a child...

a) Needs some extra time one day and the parents are not present?

It is suggested that parents create an additional child in ENUFF, with the name "Extra Time".

The name must be written exactly as Extra Time.   Allow 30 min, 1 hr (or whatever you think is right for a one time use) and assign a unique password that only you (the parent) will know.

Once that child signs off (even before their time is up) they will not be able to use the computer again with the same password.  Following the use of this extra time "account", parents are advised to key-in a new password for the next time and click on the “Reset this setting” button located in the Configuration panel, while the user “Extra Time” is displayed.  Write the new password and provide it to your child when it is needed.

b) Needs additional time on a given day and the parents are present?

Enter the Configuration menu and proceed to the window where you would set the days and times for every child.

Either…

Select the child's name from the list and simply click on "Reset this setting" if you are going to repeat the same time interval that the child just used up,

Or...

Change the permissions to whatever new setting you wish without having to click on “Reset this setting”.
At the end, click on Close to exit Configuration.

Important feature!
There is also another way to reward kids for something positive they have done.  When the ENUFF user name and password dialog box displays, select your child's name and instead of entering his/her password, enter your (parent) password.  You will see three options available; 1) Reset the child's time completely 2) Add some time to what they now have or 3) Reduce the time they now have.  Once you select one of these option and exit this mode, the new setting will take effect right away.

c) Tries to change the time and date on the computer in order to keep using it?

ENUFF has several built-in protection mechanisms.  The computer time and date can be changed in 2-3 different ways.  However, when a child operates the computer, ENUFF will not allow the child to change these variables. A parent/teacher however can change the time as usual.

Note: If you (the parent or teacher) find that the computer time has been changed, notify Akrontech a.s.a.p.

d) Tries to delete the entire program?

The child may be able to remove certain non-critical files but not the actual program.  If you find any unusual messages on your screen pertaining to ENUFF, it is best to exit the program and re-install it.
To exit ENUFF, a parent must Right-Click on the Lock, select Administrator and EXIT (with your password).  Re-installation would then be possible.

e) Needs to do a project and you want him/her to only access certain programs?

f) Needs the computer for 2 hours per day, but is allowed only 30 minutes on the Internet?

Supposing your child's name is Simon.  In ENUFF you would normally create a profile for Simon with his settings for days, times etc.  In Simon's setting, allow 1 hr and 30 min computer use per day and NO Internet access.

Now, create one more profile (as if you had another child) and instead of calling it Simon, call it Simon-I

Give Simon-I only 30 minutes per day and allow access to the Internet.  Simon, would have to sign in as Simon-I to use the Internet but only for half an hour daily.

When you use two profiles for a child as we describe in this section, it is very important to also set the "Upon Sign off..." option to "Blank Screen" so that ENUFF will prevent the user from having endless sessions on chat lines without being logged in or better yet, set the same option to "Log Off Win user" instead in order to prevent endless downloads while the user is not logged in.

g) Forgets to Sign Off

If a child forgets to sign off and walks away from the computer, ENUFF by default will sign that child off after 5 minutes.  This feature can be turned off or you could change the time to anything other than 5 minutes.  This feature is part of the Advanced Options.

Questions people ask

Q1) The latest daily time limit in ENUFF is 11:59 PM but we are ok if our child stays on the computer till 1:00 AM.  How do we do this?

You can either use the "Time Block" function as explained in this manual or you can set up 2 different accounts for your child.  The first one will expire at 11:59 pm and the second one will start 1 minute later (at 12:00 am).  In this case, the user will be signed off by ENUFF at 11:59 pm and they must wait one minute and log back in under the other account which will be set for one hour and it will start at 12:00 am.

Q2)  Will ENUFF filter out inappropriate websites?

ENUFF is not a filtering program and it will not filter out inappropriate websites.  Feel free to use ENUFF with another filtering program however.  There hasn't been any known conflicts between ENUFF and another filtering program.

Q3)  How can I use ENUFF to increase safety for my children on the Internet?

A survey done by Akrontech, showed that most people who had used a filtering program, found it to be unreliable.  We suggest that parents/employers do not entirely rely on the use of filtering programs.  They can protect your loved ones from the Internet's dark side but certainly not 100%.  Filtering programs rely heavily on the existence of distinct words to block a web site or a web page. A filtering program however will never know what is contained in photos or a video clips that someone may be emailing to your child as attachments and the filtering program would never block it.  There are many other similar possibilities for your child to access inappropriate or otherwise possibly dangerous Internet content. We strongly advise parents to supervise what their loved ones are doing while on the Internet, by giving them access to the Internet only when they are around to supervise.

Q4)  It is OK for a user to go on the Net but we do not want him/her to use a chat line (like MSN Messenger).  can this be done?

Once you specify Internet access [No] for a user, this user will not be able to access the Internet at all.  Many administrators (parents) however have a need to allow children users to use the Internet say 2 hours per day but not go on a chat line.

In this case, create more than one account for the subject child (Johnny, and Johnny-Internet) as if these two accounts belonged to two different children.  Give Johnny (who will have his Internet access set to No) lots of time per day to use the computer. Set "Johnny-Internet" time to 1 hour per day with the Internet option set to [Yes].  When your child wants to use the Internet, s/ he must sign in using the "Johnny-Internet" account.

In this account, add the MSN Messenger program to the list of "Restricted" programs, so that ENUFF will block it and not allow it to operate.

Q5)  We only want our children to use Email while on the Internet.  Can ENUFF do this?

Yes, by adding your browser (Internet Explorer, Netscape or both) to the list of "Restricted" programs.

Q6)  We need more settings (more flexibility) for a user.  Can we have more than 3 settings per user?

Yes, by creating more than one profile for a child (as if you had many children). For example: Johnny, Johnny-No Internet, Johnny-No Games.  The same can be done if you need more settings for every day of the week (ie. Anna-Monday, Anna-Tuesday etc.). Please note that all these profiles for a child can all use the same password.

When you use multiple profiles for a child as we describe in this section, it is very important to also set the "Upon Sign off..." option to "Blank Screen" so that ENUFF will prevent the user from having endless sessions on chat lines without being logged in or better yet, set the same option to "Log Off Win user" instead, in order to prevent endless downloads while the user is not logged in.

Q7) We want to limit our children's time on a few games to one hour per day.  Can we do this?

Yes, by combining the use of "Allowed" programs which will only allow certain program to operate (such as the games you want) and the use of multiple profiles for one child.  For example "Mary" must log in to ENUFF using the account you have set up by the name "Mary-Everquest", in order to ONLY use the game "Everquest". In this profile, you will decide how long your child can use the computer.  When Mary uses up her time under "Mary-Everquest", she would have to log back in to the computer using another profile, in which you may have restricted all games and allowing only other programs to be used such as your word processor, an encyclopedia etc., by using the "Allowed" function (please read details about the "Allowed" function in this manual).

Q8)  We only want a user to have access to 5 programs and nothing else.  How can ENUFF do this?

Use the "Allowed" function as explained in this manual.  This way, you can automatically block all programs for this user and allow only the ones you will add to a list.

Q9)  We do not want a user to have access to the CD ROM drive because he keeps installing new games.  Can we block access to the CD ROM?

To accomplish this and impose other restrictions, enter the Configuration and advance to the 4th screen which has more advanced settings. Click on the button called "Hide".

Note! Before using this function, you will need to install another free windows utility on your computer called TweakUI which is available from Microsoft (R). Please visit one of the following websites to download and install TweakUI.

After you install this utility, go to Control Panel and you will see its icon.  Double click on TweakUI and you will see all the different features it contains.

The reason we provide an access to TweakUI through the ENUFF program is because you may want to hide the C: drive on your computer so that your child can not install anything new on your computer.  If you do that however, you can not find TweakUI so that you can turn it off of make other changes.  By placing the button called "Hide" within the ENUFF program, you can always access TweakUI.

Q10) We just want to give our child so many hours per week and we are not so concerned when s/he will use them.  Can we do this with ENUFF?

This feature is not available yet. This function may be available in a subsequent version and it will be free when you upgrade.

Q11)  We want to allow our children on the Internet only when we are there to supervise them but the times keep changing every day so having an account with the same hours every day, does not work.  We do not want to keep altering the settings all the time.  Can we work around this?

Create an account for your child with the total number of hours of Internet time you want but do not share this password with your child.  When you think it is appropriate to allow your child on the Net, simply log them in using this account.  You do not need to worry about the sign off time because ENUFF will do this.

Q12)  How much time am I actually giving my child with the following settings?

Lets create two separate profiles for "Johnny" ("Johnny" and "Johnny-Internet") using the following settings.

Johnny (Internet access set to NO)

Setting 1

Mon-Fri

Allow 4 hours and 0 min

Between 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm

Johnny-Internet (Internet access set to YES)

Setting 1

Mon-Fri

Allow 2 hours and 0 min

Between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm

The total time this child will have is 4 hours using both of these profiles due to the tight outer limits.  This child will not have the total of 6 hours per day if the program has been set up as shown above because both time intervals must be used up between 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm.

It is suggested that you use tight outer limits (or ultimate cutoff time as we say) only in situations where you would want your child to use his/her time within a very narrow time window.  If they don't use it within the allowed time window, their time is lost. The typical settings should allow the user to use his/her 4 hours between say 3:00 pm and 10:00 pm.  This would allow the child to pause for a while without loosing time.

Q13) The ENUFF timer keeps counting down but my child is not on the computer.  Why is this happening sometimes?

Consider this case for a child:

Mon-Fri

Allow 5 hours

Between 2:00 pm and 10:00 pm

Lets us now say that this child has been away from home most of the day and she begins using the computer (for the first time on Tuesday) at 6:00 pm.  Although she had 5 hours for the day and has not used any part of it by 6:00 pm, it is important to realize that at 10:00 pm she must be off the computer!  Therefore observing the ENUFF timer after 5:00 pm is such case (even if the child has signed off the computer for a while), you will naturally see the timer continuing to count down because by 10:00 pm her time will be up.  So, in practice, after 6:00 pm she has less than 4:00 hours left and the timer will continue to count down even though the child is not on the computer.

7) Uninstalling the program

Before registration, the demo can be removed by clicking on "Remove Demo" from the registration reminder screen, which appears every time a parent enters his/her password.

If you ever wish to remove the entire program after it has been registered and unlocked, you must exit the program first.

Follow these steps to complete the task (only if it is absolutely necessary):

To Exit the program right-click on the lock , which is located in the bottom-right hand corner of your screen.  Then, select Administrator and Exit.  Enter your password and you will unload (Exit) the program.  That means ENUFF will not be operating after that point but it will still be on your computer.  At that point you can re-install/upgrade the program if you wish.

To Remove the program:

IMPORTANT!  Removing the program from your computer will require complete re-installation later!

Follow these steps to permanently remove the program from your computer only after you have Exited:

From the Start Menu, select Settings, then Control Panel and Add/Remove Programs.  From the list that will appear, double click on "ENUFF Uninstall" and confirm the removal of the program.

ENUFF will be removed completely.
